People interested in hotel jobs or in working as a travel agent will have more chances of being hired in Joburg than in Cape Town.

More than 3400 tourism jobs are currently available nationwide which states that the tourism sector is at its full heights - said by Gabriel Puliatti, of the job search engine Adzuna

Tourism Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk said that for each job in this sector, at least  two of them are

in the broader economy.

According to a study done by Adzuna over the past three months on the 250 000 listings of the travel and hospitality industries he found that, Joburg offered the best salaries and a better chances of getting jobs. In Gauteng city, for every tourism related job there are on an average 54 applicants.

In comparison, Cape town has 58 applicants for every post advertise.

But if you are interested and keen to work along the scenic beauty of Garden Route, in Mossel Bay or Plettenberg Bay, you have to struggle a little to get a job in tourism. Only 15 applicants are there for each job in this area compared to a highly competitive market in Paarl where more than 400 people have applied for each position.

Puliatti said that job seekers must be clearly aware of Limpopo where the vacancy per candidate was more than 2300/job.

The highest difference in the job seekers against the requirements was seen in Pietermaritzburg, where around 5737 people had applied for every job advertised.

More than one third of the available tourism posts in the country are in the hotel industry. But there are also better opportunities for people looking to work at a game lodge or as a travel agent.

Puliatti explained that that Adzuna concluded by considering the salaries, availability of jobs and therefore the competition as well as the number of tourists that came to the country in past four months.

Each location was analysed by the number of tourists in the region, average salary offered and the average number of jobs in the sector. This output received was used to rank more than 200 locations nationwide.

He ended up by saying that the final survey results will be available on their website  adzuna.co.za this weekend.
